PROGRAM & CURRICULUM

A play-based curriculum is at the core of our program. The staff incorporates both NAEYC guidelines and "Creative Curriculum" in developing a variety of learning experiences appropriate to the ages of our students. As a part of Flossmoor Community Church, the Weekday Preschool models and encourages Christian values and behaviors, but there is no specific Christian education component in the curriculum. Children of all faiths are welcome.

Two through Five-Year-Old Classes

We offer morning preschool classes for two through five-year-olds, with a variety of scheduling options. Classes meet from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

  • Classes for two-year-olds meet two or three mornings per week.
  • Three-year-olds can meet two or three mornings per week.
  • Four-year-olds and five-year-olds have the opportunity to sign up for three, four or five mornings per week.

Parent/Toddler Class

The preschool program also includes a Parent/Toddler class for adults and children ages 18 to 35 months. Sessions are facilitated by one of our staff members and meet once a week for an hour. Activities include art, stories, music, sensory awareness exercises and large and small motor activities.

Facility
The preschool is housed within the education wing of Flossmoor Community Church.

  • Classrooms are filled with bright, natural light and are well-equipped with materials to encourage exploration and growth.
  • Child-sized washroom facilities adjoin each classroom.
  • A fully-equipped playground, directly accessed from the classrooms, is used everyday by each class, weather permitting.
  • A children's library, containing over 1,000 volumes of fine children’s literature, is on-site. Each class visits the library weekly so that children can check out a book.

Extended School Days

In addition to the regular classroom schedule, twelve-week-long enrichment programs are offered twice a year that can extend the school day until 2:00 p.m. Registration and fee payment for these classes take place during the school year.  In these programs:

  • Children enrolled bring a lunch with them on their enrichment class day.
  • The enrichment teachers supervise lunchtime after the regular day ends
  • After lunch, the teachers lead classes that range from gentle gymnastics, reading readiness, music and singing, learning about other countries and cultures, and elementary science projects.

Lunch Breaks
Throughout the year, the director schedules a number of "Lunch Breaks." Children who are signed up in advance bring a lunch with them to school and can eat and stay for supervised play until 2:00 p.m.
